Abstract and highlights read on the publisher's page (an OSTI copy exists, 1820702). A beta-photovoltaic nuclear battery: ⁶³Ni in chloride solution mixed with ZnS:Cu,Al phosphor (volumetric configuration) converts the β⁻ energy to light, and an InGaP photovoltaic cell matched to the radioluminescence spectrum converts the light to electricity; with 15 mCi the total power-conversion efficiency reached 0.289 % (0.0638 % for the planar configuration), and the highest electrical power was 3.35 nW cm⁻² at 30 mCi.
