Advective heat transport
Bulk motion of a fluid carries its enthalpy between regions. The thermal energy transported belongs to the fluid's thermal state; the fluid motion itself must be established separately by an upstream flow process, buoyancy or an external circulation device such as a pump.

Relations
- a bulk fluid flow connects the hotter and colder regions
- for forced circulation the flow may be supplied by an external pump rather than generated by buoyancy
