Read (open PDF on grc.nasa.gov, loop-3 pass 41 close). 'In an MHD generator a hot high-speed conducting gas flows through a magnetic field. As a result of this motion, a voltage is induced. This voltage drives a current through a load and generates electric power.' The closed-loop nonequilibrium facility ran at 1.8 kg/s, 2100 K stagnation temperature, 4 atm, Mach 0.3–0.5; plasma and electrode shorting limited the initial generated power.
