Full text read (author copy, Memorial University repository). A micro heat engine fabricated on a PZT substrate with Ti-W microheaters: heat supplied by the heaters drives thermocapillary pumping of a droplet plug along a closed 60 × 60 × 15,000 μm channel, and the plug's pressure is to deflect a piezoelectric membrane. The experiments characterise the microheaters (four-point probe, heat flux 1.2–120 μW m⁻² per channel) and the droplet motion; the membrane deflection, the 1.2–1.3 mV (0.5 mV for a 300 nm membrane) and the ≈ 1.6 % efficiency are simulation results for that geometry, not measurements. Earlier droplet-motion experiments: Odukoya & Naterer 2010; Yang, Odukoya & Naterer 2010.
