Elastocaloric effect

Stressing a shape-memory alloy through its martensitic transformation releases latent heat; unloading absorbs it. Temperature changes of 20 K or more in NiTi.

Condensed matterfirst reported 1980also: mechanocaloric effect, stress-induced caloric effect, elastocaloric cooling

Atlas record: 10 claims reference this phenomenon — 5 demonstrated, 2 replicated, 2 established and 1 theoretically predicted.
